you have an interesting website with a lot of useful TEFL resources..
Dear Chinkerfly,
I am a PCV in Ukraine. Having my degree Chinese Language and Culture, I have started a Mandarin club here in my town. The kids love it and are hungry for knowledge. I asked my RM about communicating with PC China to see if they had any old or extra teaching/learning materials I could obtain for my students, but he told me to go ahead and directly contact Peace Corps China. How does one go about doing that? I googled Peace Corps China and came up with this site as a lead.
Anyway, thank you for your time and help.
Best regards,
Ty
Hi there Ty – I suggest joining the Facebook group and see if anyone responds to you there if you’re trying to get in touch with the current PCVs in China. Group 16 just arrived. I’ll also post your question to the RPCV message boards if you want to give them some direct contact info – you can send it to me at chinkerfly at yahoo dot com.
Dear Chinkerfly,
Thank you so much for your help! I will send you an e-mail after this. I look forward to a new semester teaching Mandarin (and English… I am TEFL, after all) to my children. Thanks again!
Best regards,
Ty
Awesome. I am definitely, definitely flexible! I just think China would be a natural fit given my studies and experience. Thanks!
Hello,
I just got back in May from studying abroad in Beijing for 8 months. After I graduate next June, I would like to serve as a PC volunteer back in China. I’m wondering if my time living in China would in any way hinder my application or if it would enhance my application?
Hi Joanna,
It should help your application, not hurt it. But as many RPCVs have mentioned before, you do not get to choose the place that they send you. The most you can do is list a preference for a region (i.e. Asia). Being a Peace Corps volunteer is all about being flexible and willing to go serve where you’re most needed!
